This past reading I learned about the Guinea worm and how it was the original drawing for the snake wrapped around the stick. This is a symbol of medicine and in ancient times it was used to show that they could remove the worm. The worm grows up to 3 feet, they were removed by wrapping them around a stick and pulling them out. In this chapter I also learned about the myth of rabies leading to the transformation of a werewolf. In the next chapter I learned about “jumping genes” that appeared in times of environmental stress. Our junk DNA which isn’t code consists of a large amount of these genes. Once again the simplicity of the book has made everything clear and very understandable.
