Ethylene is a hormone produced as a result of kerosene combustion. It functions mainly in triggering a plant’s aging processes, such as fruit ripening and the process of old leaves falling off a tree. The Avocado, as shown above, experienced a overproduction of ethylene which caused an enzymatic deterioration of the fruit’s cell walls. The deterioration caused the fruit to become softer and contributed to the fruits’ ripening process. Ethylene (which is gaseous) is also the same hormone that caused the mature avocado to fall off the tree.
