Introduced Species

An introduced species is one that, because of human actions, is now living outside its native range. The fire ant, seen in the upper right-hand corner of the photo, is an introduced species in south Florida that naturally comes from South America. They were transported to the United States unintentionally on cargo ships in the 1930s.
