Tropism is a biological phenomenon, indicating the growth response in a plant toward or away from stimuli due to differential rates of cell elongation. The type of tropism can be defined by two categories: whether it’s negative or positive (meaning does it grow towards the stimuli or away from it) and the actual type. The types of tropism include: chemotropism, gravitropism, heliotropism, sonotropism, hydrotropism, phototropism, thermotropism, electrotropism, thigmotropism, exotropism, and host or cell tropism.
The type of tropism displayed in the picture is negative electropism. Power lines run through the middle of all of the trees on this street, causing the branches to grow away from the electric circuit.
