Heterotroph

Heterotroph

The photo is of two cats. Cats are heterotrophs. A heterotroph is an organism that can’t make it’s own food. It can’t synthesize its own organic carbon-based compounds from inorganic sources. Heterotrophs feed on organic matter produced by, or available in, other organisms. The cats in the picture eat smaller animals in their habitat.
