Gymnosperm Cone

The cone of a gymnosperm plant is houses its seeds. The cone of gymnosperms is equal to the fruit of angiosperms. Both serve the same function, which is to enclose the ovary and ovules in a safe protected area, and also for seed dispersal. The cones are formed from modified leaves, and seeds develop on the surface of the cones.
