Genetically modified organism

This is a picture of a genetically modified tomato plant.  This tomato plant is resistant to a certain virus, called tomato spotted wilt virus.  In order to genetically modify a plant for this type of trait, one must select plants that are least affected by this virus and breed them together, thus strengthening the likelihood of the trait being passed on.  This process must be repeated until the plants are no longer affected by the virus.
