Predation

In order for this spider to live and eat, it produces a sticky substance and puts it on the web it makes. When a small insect flies by or lands on the web, they get stuck and can’t escape. This leaves time for the spider to kill the insect and make it as food. This is just one of many examples of predation. Predation is an interaction with species in which one species uses another species as food. In this case, the spider is the predator will the insect to the right of the photo that is stuck on the web is the prey. He’s the not so lucky one! Predation is extremely important in ecosystems because it influences the abundance, distribution, and diversity of species.
