Unlike eukaryotic cells, prokaryotic cells are much less complex. Prokaryotic cells do not have a true nucleus and lack membrane bound organelles. The circular loop of DNA, called a plasmid, is coiled up in a middle nucleoid region of the cell, and isn’t inside a nucleus. They are also much smaller in size than eukaryotic cells. Prokaryotes include kingdom Monera and Archaea. You may be wondering why there is a picture of a counter top. It isn’t a counter top photographed, it is millions of prokaryotic bacteria that inhabit the counter top.
