Organisms in Different Plant Divisions: Angiosperms

There are several different divisions of the Kingdom Plantae. For example, angiosperms, bryophytes, ferns, and mosses. The division of angiosperms are considered to be the most successful, as well as the most recent. Angiosperms are flowering plants, so the colors of the petals can attract animals that can help pollinate them or spread their seeds. Flowers are actually the reproductive structures of these plants. The anther and filament of the stamen are the male reproductive structures, while the stigma, style, and ovary of the carpel are the female reproductive structures. The pollen grains produced in the anther sticks to the stigma and travels down the style unto it reaches the ovary. Once it reaches the ovary, it fertilizes the ovule and together they form an embryo. This embryo then develops into a seed, and as the ovary matures, it becomes fruit. Fruits help disperse seeds through animal feces, wind, and by sticking to animal fur. In this picture though, it shows an orchid. Orchids, unlike most angiosperms, are not hermaphrodites, and therefore do not have both sets of male and female reproductive structures.
