Endosperm

The endosperm is tissue within seeds, as pictured above, that provides energy to the embryo in the form of starch. The endosperm is formed through the process of double fertilization. In this process two sperm cells enter ovary of the plant, one of which fertilizes the egg, producing the zygote, while the other fertilizes the polar bodies ejected from the egg, thus producing the endosperm.
