Xylem

Xylem is the water and nutrient transporting system in vascular plants.  Without xylem, water would not be able to travel from the roots to the shoots of plants.  Xylem is the tissue this vascular plant.  The other transporting tissue in vascular plants is phloem, which transports food.  Xylem is generally made up of tracheids and vessel elements.
