2 # 1 Different types of Carbohydrates
Simple carbohydrate- sugar
Carbohydrates are found in many foods, and are converted to sugars in the digestive system. Carbohydrates aka ‘carbs’ are divided into three categories; Simple carbs, complex carbs, and fiber. The difference in the three categories is how they are broken down during digestion. Above is a picture of sugar, a simple carbohydrate. Simple carbohydrates are usually called simple sugars because they contain either natural or added sugar. Simple carbohydrates are foods that satisfy ones sweet tooth because they contain sweeteners like sugar and honey. Some fruits and vegetables are also classified as simple carbohydrates because they have natural sugars.
