Modified Stem
Modified Stems are stems that are modified in a plant for a special function; for example, food storage, support, and vegetative propagation. Examples of modified stems are rhizome of the iris and tubers of the potato. The modified stem in the picture above is for protection from animals. The thorns prevent the plant from being eaten and broken.
