Endosperm

The endosperm is the tissue produced inside of the seeds of most plants around the time of fertilization. The tissue surrounds the embryo and provides nutrition. The nutrition is mostly starch based, but may include some oils and protein. This makes endosperm tissue an important source of nutrition in many organisms’ diet. Pictured above are two soybeans split in half, exposing the endosperm inside.
